Kenya Goes Where No Other Country Has
The oldest payments system in the world is about to be dethroned in Kenya. As the Wakenya study found, those using cashless systems rose from 44% in 2016 to 60% today. In tandem, cash has fallen in to 76% from 91%. Will the crossover point (when more Kenyans choose “cashless” over cash) happen this year? A (small) push from the government may help, as the lockdown fee-waiver proved. Over to you, Mr. President.
