Tanzanian musicians are quite the rage among Kenyan youth.
According to Consumer Insight’s Holla Report, 24% of the youth interviewed indicated that Diamond was their favourite artist, followed by Ali Kiba at 15%. Incidentally, gospel music listenership among Kenyan is also quite significant, with the Tanzanian gospel musicians Christina Shusho and Rose Muhando getting a mention. Even though some Kenyan gospel musicians such as Willy Paul and Bahati still find favour among Kenyan youth, the numbers tell a thought-provoking story: Tanzanians artists have struck gold on the home turf of Kenyan artists!
|This article is condensed from Holla, Consumer Insight's biennial youth study that documents the changing trends of the youth of East Africa. Using a sample of 1,200 youths per country, the study uses a structured questionnaire to talk to male and female youth aged 7 to 24, living in urban and peri-urban areas and collects data on their lifestyle choices, media exposure and usage, and last but not least, product usage habits.|
